About Fine Line Designs

Our Technique

Our makers use quality top-grain leather hides that are responsibly sourced and treated. We use both vegetable- and chrome-tanned leathers. To ensure we maximize our use of the hide, we design our processes to operate with as little waste as possible. Then, we make projects out of any scrap material.

Hides can be hair-on, dyed, or embossed. Our makers stamp, tool, laser-print, embroider, edge, sew and sculpt designs to enhance and differentiate our product offerings. Our products are handmade - in some cases even handsewn - , and we take care to select quality fasteners and hardware to ensure long-lasting use.

About the Founder

Fine Line founder, Xander Lutz, is a maker. His work in leather has taken him in a myriad of directions, and he has engaged in a wide-range of projects from traditional leather accessories to custom cosplay armor. He delights in the possibility of what can be fashioned and takes great pride in understanding authentic design mechanics. He is respectful of the animal, deliberate in design, and efficient in process while remaining ever-conscientious of the consumer experience.

Xander is a disabled U.S. Army combat veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder. He took up leather crafting as a means of occupational therapy. The physical nature of the craft, the dexterity of motion, the repetition of the processes - even the smell of the leather - allowed him to reclaim the gift of focus and entertain his creativity. After 15 years in the trade, he has not only continued his craft but serves his local artist community as a mentor and teacher to students of all ages.
